Ricardo Magnetic Zone Football Shreve Derailment

Ricardo magnet boys soccer has shaken our district, my match, the Broncos defeated Byrd 3-2 Tuesday.

Now Magnet (8-4-2, 5-2-1) can do it again Thursday when travel to Lee Hedges to take on district leader Captain Shreve (9-3-2, 7-0-2).

The teams tied 2-2 in December, but Captain Shreve has yet to lose a match to a Louisiana team. Magnet is on a five-match winning streak and six-match unbeaten streak.

With Byrd's (15-7-2, 7-2-1) loss, Shreve would have to lose two district matches to be in danger of not winning an outright title.

The Gators, who are receiving votes in the LHSCCA poll and are No. 9 in the LHSAA unofficial power ratings, have three district matches remaining and could clinch at least a share of a district title by beating Magnet.

Byrd, receiving votes and No. 23 in the power ratings, gets a dangerous Parkway (7-6-1, 3-4) squad on Thursday.

In Division II, District I, Benton is two road district games away from a title. The Tigers have a half-game edge on Loyola (7-8, 5-1-1) after the Flyers tied North DeSoto (4-11-1, 3-2-1) on Tuesday, and now Benton (winners of six of its last seven) must go to North DeSoto to secure at least a share of the title.

Benton ends the district season with Minden (1-6-1). The Tigers climbed to No. 5 in the Division II power ratings and are receiving votes along with No. 23 Loyola.

Evangel (7-5, 5-0) leads Division III, District 1 with a perfect league record with no wins coming by less than three goals.

The Eagles aren't home free yet with Calvary (1-4-1, 1-1) having just one loss and the teams meeting Jan. 29.

Teams in each division looking to rise into a playoff spot include No. 34 Airline (10-7) in Division I, No. 34 North DeSoto in Division II and Bossier (5-4-1, 3-2) in Division III.

Airline's Pau Gin and Byrd's Mason Varnell lead the area with 25 goals, according to Brian Hall's Northwest Louisiana Soccer website. Airline's Gabe Rodriguez leads the area with 12 assists with Loyola's Clifton Coleman (11) in pursuit.Source:shreveporttimes.com
