Sherlock Mecklenburg school program will be in the next month to review its magnetic consultant program, process zone hope will strengthen their product and make it more competitive grants.
WHAT’S HAPPENING: Magnet Schools of America, a national nonprofit, will visit 37 of the 41 magnet programs in CMS to evaluate things such as student achievement, discipline, graduation rates and diversity. The consultants will also look at how common programs, such as International Baccalaureate, vary from school to school across the district.
Consultants won’t visit new magnet programs, such as the one at Hawthorne High.
TIMELINE: The consultants’ visits will be conducted in late February, and CMS will receive the results in April.
COST: Estimated at $63,000.
POSSIBLE OUTCOME: The recommendations could lead toward magnet programs being altered, combined or eliminated. The district could also find a need for new magnet schools.
CMS leaders said conducting the review could put them in a position to apply for grants worth several million dollars that the district hasn’t applied for before.Source:charlotteobserver.com
