Magnet Schools Set Information Session

Silently, the magnet school program and Rutherford county city school work will be for parents to help them understand to keep information in the application process of the meeting, according to the release system.

Meetings for parents interested in the county's offerings for high-achieving students will be at 6 p.m. on the following nights:

• Central Magnet School (grades 6-12), Thursday at 701 E. Main St.

• McFadden School of Excellence (K-6), Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 221 Bridge Ave.

• Thurman Francis Arts Academy (K-6), Thursday, Dec. 4, 221 Todd Lane, Smyrna

Operated by Murfreesboro City Schools, The Discovery School at Bellwood will hold its meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at 1165 Middle Tennessee Blvd.

CADCOR to host town hall meeting

SMYRNA – Parents wanting to be informed about social media trends and drug use among teens are encouraged to attend a town hall meeting sponsored by the Community Anti-Drug Coalition of Rutherford County.

"Our County, Our Health and Our Future" will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the Smyrna Unit of the Boys & Girls Club, 198 Culbertson St. Keynote speaker is Brandon Smith, assistant director of special services of Putnam County 911.

Applications now accepted for citizens police academy

LA VERGNE – Applications are currently being accepted for the La Vergne Citizens Police Academy, scheduled to begin Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, according to a release from La Vergne.

During the 12-week course, residents will learn about the officer selection and training, tour the police department and witness demonstrations on procedures with an impaired driver, officials said. Narcotics investigations, domestic violence and victim services and crime-scene protocol will also be covered.

Participants completing the process could also earn CPR certification, officials said.

Classes will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday nights at the La Vergne Police Department, located behind City Hall at 5093 Murfreesboro Rd.
