The Slovak County School ang collection application magnet school new.
The online applications can be found online for Clyde Erwin Magnet School Of International Studies and Cultural Arts, Northwoods Elementary "Year-Round" Magnet School Of Technology And Innovation, and New Bridge Middle Magnet School.
The school system will send out more information to students who are in Pre-K through 7th grade.
The schools do not have additional costs to attend but there will be a lottery to pick the students. These students would be able to attend the magnet schools for the 2015-2016 school year.
Applications will be online through Friday, Feb. 27, 2015. The application is available online at www.onslow.k12.nc.us under “Magnet School Information.” Applications are also available at Onslow County Schools' Central Office, located at 200 Broadhurst Rd., and at each elementary and middle school in the district.
The lottery will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Jacksonville High School in the cafeteria at 4 p.m. The lottery is open to the public.
Those interested can attend open houses at each school on Tuesday, February 12, 2015, at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.
Each magnet school has a unique focus.
Clyde Erwin Elementary delivers the North Carolina Standard Course of Study in a way that helps students see how what they are learning connects with the world. Cultures in our society and around the world are explored. The interactions and interdependence of people and where they live sets the foundation for learning experiences. The school is also a recognized International Baccalaureate World School.
Northwoods Elementary focuses its instruction on technology and innovation incorporating project-based learning strategies. Northwoods is the district's only year-round school. Students are involved in collaborative learning activities that require critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Every student is assigned a laptop computer or netbook to be used in and outside the classroom for learning. Classrooms are equipped with the latest SMART technology including interactive white boards, SMART tables, 3-D document cameras and student response systems.
New Bridge Middle utilizes science and technology to focus instruction. The North Carolina Course of Study remains the guide for teachers, but in planning and carrying out lessons, students are asked to think like a scientist and use technology tools to make discoveries.Source:wnct.com
